Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
